1 August 2009
The weather in London on 1 August 2009 was bad. Heavy showers, downcast, most people stayed home. This didn't discourage the Campaign of HOPE crew who turned out in Hyde Park in large numbers to take part in the Hyde HOPE promotional event.
Volunteers organised through Facebook turned out in defiance to have fun, making an attempt to spell out HOPE on Hyde Park grounds, using London's free papers in the process. What resulted was quite awesome. Over 500 papers (about 16,000 pages) were eventually laid out before the heavens opened, driving the team reluctantly to KFC for shelter (and re-fuelling)…..sadly, the heavens stayed open, and cut the party short.
Organiser Chima said "We wanted to have a blast creating a huge HOPE message that would be visible from the heavens….the weather had other plans but we did try, and that is whats important". |
